New Horizon Leadership Formation

Salesian Youth and Young Adult Ministries (SYM) of Chicago in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Chicago–Respect Life/Chastity Education Initiative and the ECHO Community of Louisiana runs a special formation program for young adults (18-35) called the “New Horizon Leadership Program” at St. John Bosco-St. James Parish in Chicago. This New Horizon Leadership Formation program is a two-year journey for young adults who want to grow as mature Christian disciples and leaders, discovering their true identity and gifts while deepening their relationships with God and others. Our formation is guided by the Theology of the Body developed by St. John Paul II.

The first-year features weekly in-person sessions grounded in four pillars: human formation, spiritual growth, virtue and self-gift, and missionary spirituality, culminating in a community retreat in Wyoming. Year two shifts the focus to evangelization, sending participants back to their parishes to share what they've learned and make a difference in their communities. No prior leadership experience is required—just a commitment to the program and openness to spiritual growth. The ideal group for this formation program would consist of 10-12 young men and women (of equal genders) of ages between 18 and 35 years old.
